Clarence Seedorf is looking forward to the new Serie A season and is keen to carry on where he left off, after helping AC Milan land their first Scudetto in 7yrs.
Speaking to support the Heineken Star Player game, the Champions League’s most decorated footballer is delighted that the Rossoneri are finally replicating their European form domestically and hopes to be a part of many more successful Milan sides in years to come.
“It’s been a while since the last Scudetto. We’ve been performing better in Europe than in the league, even if we finished second and third many times. We have always been quite competitive.
“We’ve had three finals in the Champions League so that’s not bad!”
Despite his 35years, Seedorf is certainly not looking to retire any time soon and believes that the day he loses that excitement and desire to win things at the start of the season, is the day he will think about hanging up the boots once and for all.
“It’s three clubs and four cups. The start of every season is always for me a new beginning. I have the same drive as the first year of my career. The day I start a season with less ambition, I think it will be a sign for me to think about stopping.
“I feel fit, I am fit, I’m mentally motivated, I don’t drink or smoke. I look after myself so that should pay off now in the next few years. Until you see me stop playing, I will have the drive. Don’t have any doubt about that.
“For me it’s about being motivated, preparing your body and your mind, finding a reason to wake up in the morning and loving it. That’s what being a sportsman is all about. What you have the heart, it never dies. The physical and the mental aspect of it can make a champions, someone without those characteristics can be cut off from being a champion.”
