Portsmouth’s financial woes are worse than initially thought, and the club’s appointed administrator has stated that the south coast outfit may not be able to reach the end of this season.
Mismanagement from a number of former owners, including Sacha Gaydamak, have led the club to a position where they had to bring in outside help to try to find a solution to their outstanding debts.
However, administrator Trevor Birch has shone light onto the critical state of affairs at Fratton Park, with the club’s future in no way guaranteed.
“We are looking at all possible options for raising further revenues in the very short term but we realise there is only so much that can be realistically achieved,” he released in a statement, published in The Telegraph.
“Unless something significant happens, there is a real possibility we may not be able to fulfil the season’s fixtures.”
Manager Michael Appleton confirmed the dire financial situation that the club finds itself in.
“The situation is bad enough that we won’t be able to see the season out unless something is done to sort everything out,” he said.
