Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers doesn’t think Luis Suarez will leave the Premier League despite the level of criticism he’s been receiving.
The Uruguayan striker has rarely been far from controversy since his £22.8m arrival in 2011, with his style of play and on-field mannerisms earning widespread disapproval.
Last season Suarez was banned for eight games for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and has been targeted by opposing fans for his theatrics on the field of play.
This has led some to question whether the front-man would be looking to move away from England, but Rodgers believes that he will stay put:
“I think he loves playing in English football.” The Reds boss is quoted by SkySports.
“I speak with Luis regularly and he loves the passion and excitement of the game over here.
“What he is, is a player who is mentally very strong – as you can see from his time here the amount of stick he has taken.
“It is actually a driver for him. It really motivates him and he loves being at Liverpool: he loves the city, the club and the supporters so I can’t see that (being forced out) happening.”
Suarez was recently criticised by Everton boss David Moyes, who suggested that the player may dive during last weekend’s Merseyside derby.
The 25-year-old responded to this during the game diving in front of the Toffees bench in the aftermath of Leighton Baines’ own goal, which came via a Suarez shot.
