Real Madrid France star Kylian Mbappe has endorsed England's controversial appointment of Thomas Tuchel as new head coach.

Tuchel was chosen to step into Gareth Southgate's shoes following his resignation as England boss after Euro 2024. The German tactician has plenty of pedigree and is now stepping into international football to try and bring it home for the Three Lions. The have revealed that behind the scenes, Mbappe has raved about Tuchel to his France team-mates and expects him to do well in his new role.

Mbappe and Tuchel shared a good relationship behind the scenes during their spell at Paris Saint-Germain, notably reaching the Champions League final in 2020. The forward gave a "glowing appraisal" of the 51-year-old and now believes England have a strong chance at winning the 2026 World Cup, which would be their first triumph since 1966.

Tuchel has become only the third non-English manager to take charge of the men's national team. Fabio Capello of Italy and Sven-Goran Eriksson of Sweden were the other two, but both failed to achieve anything significant during their time in charge.
