Liverpool want to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt following his impressive World Cup performances for Germany according to Italian news outlet Calcio Insider.
What’s the story?
The 22-year-old joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2014 and has gone on to make 132 appearances for the German club, scoring 27 goals and registering 18 assists.
The left winger, who is valued at £36million on Transfermarkt, was one of the few bright sparks for Germany at the World Cup as they crashed out at the Group Stages.
Now according to the report, Liverpool are interested in signing the winger but they will need to stump up £53million to bring him to Anfield.
Do Liverpool need him?
While there’s no doubting that Brandt is an exciting player who has the ability to beat players and provide a quality end product, surely that area of the pitch is one where Liverpool are sorted.

With Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane terrorising defences, the Reds can’t fit in another attacking player and Brandt is too good to warm their bench.
Liverpool would be better off spending that sort of money sorting out their defence and goalkeeper.
