Per in Germany, the Bayer Leverkusen star is yet to formally agree on signing a new contract but is closing on penning a new deal. Wirtz's new contract is likely to be valid until 2028 and the player could receive a significant hike in his wages and cross the €10 million (£8m/$11m) per season mark.

Wirtz has been in demand after playing a starring role for Leverkusen and helping Xabi Alonso's side win their historic Bundesliga title last season. In the past few months, top European clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid have been closely linked with the Germany international, but the report adds a move to one of those clubs is currently off the table as he will stay at least until the 2026 World Cup.
