Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel has praised the club’s manager Mauricio Pochettino despite the club’s disappointing start to the season, per Football.London.
What’s he said?
Spurs have won just one of their opening three games, beating Aston Villa 3-1.
A 2-2 draw with Manchester City was a fine result in context, though their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United was a particularly poor result.
There has been uncertainty surrounding Jan Vertonghen and Christian Eriksen, with both players seeing their contracts expire at the end of the season; the defender has yet to play this season, while the latter has been benched against both Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
Friedel, though, believes that Pochettino is exactly the man required to steer them through this rough patch.
He said: “There’ll be very few better people to deal with the problems, he’s very good at making decisions on the spot. He’s very good at having to adapt and getting others to adapt to him, while always trying to learn.
“Look at last season when they made no signings and still had a very good season. I’d be willing to bet he wanted to make signings, but they didn’t, and he was able to deal with it. They’re in very good hands with Mauricio.
“He’s a very impressive head coach and he’s actually a lot more than that, he becomes a mentor for a lot of the players and he’s a very compassionate, honest man. He’s one of the best in the game.”
Some sense
Finally.
It’s about time that a pundit actually spoke some sense and Friedel has absolutely hit the nail on the head.

Pochettino has done a superb job at Spurs and that should not be expunged as a result of three results in the Premier League and some uncertainty about two players in the first-team.
There is no need for a knee-jerk reaction; the Argentine remains one of the top managers in Europe.
Friedel should be applauded for his analysis.
