De Jong explained that he expects to sign a new deal with Barcelona and continue at the club he joined in 2019. Since joining, the Dutch midfielder has struggled with injuries and has been the subject of transfer talk for a number of years, but now looks set to maintain his resurgence under Hansi Flick. One of the most talented midfielders in the world, De Jong has been able to rediscover the form that first dazzled the footballing world at Ajax.

Quizzed on the possibility of a new deal, De Jong told : "I think I will sign a new contract, but you can never say that with a hundred percent certainty. If everything goes well, then it will happen. They want it and I want it, so normally you can work it out."

De Jong's comments come after reports emerged in that he has parted ways with his agent Ali Dursun. The midfielder is keen to sort out his contract at Barcelona as quickly as possible and may be bringing in a new representative to help speed the process along. He may also be considering lowering his wages to stay at the club. On his agent, De Jong gave little away. He told Voetbalzone: "I can't say anything about that. I don't want to say anything about that now. I'm with the Dutch national team now, so I won't comment on that."

De Jong has just one game left to play this summer before taking a break ahead of pre-season. The Netherlands continue their World Cup qualification campaign against Malta on Tuesday hoping to add to their 2-0 victory against Finland on Saturday. De Jong will then return to Barcelona, seemingly with a new contract waiting, next month.
